Troubleshooting Multiplayer

To host or join a Multiplayer session, you must connect using:

  • Steam if you want to connect over the Internet

  • -or-
  • A Local Area Network (LAN)

Using Steam

Steam provides a matchmaking service to connect with other players around the world.

To connect via Steam

  1. On the Multiplayer screen, select the Internet (Steam) option.
  2. Click Sign In.

Using Local Area Networks (LANs)

Local Area Networks (LANs) connect computers that are usually in close physical proximity or that share common network servers. LANs are most often used by companies and organizations for the purpose of sharing files and resources.

You must be signed into your LAN before trying to create a Multiplayer session in Flight Simulator using the LAN.

To connect via a LAN

  1. On the main Multiplayer screen, select the Local network (LAN) option.
  2. Type a Player name.
  3. Click Sign In.

To learn more about advanced settings for LANs, see Network Settings.

Join Direct to Host (LAN)

A Multiplayer LAN session is only visible on the host computer's subnet. There may be other players on the LAN who are on a different subnet. They can still join the host session, but they must have the host computer's internet protocol address (IP address) to connect directly to the host session. See below for instructions on determining the host IP address.

To connect directly to a specific computer

  1. On the main Multiplayer screen, select the Local network (LAN) option.
  2. Type a Player name.
  3. Click Sign In.
  4. On the next screen, click Direct connection.
  5. Type the other computer's IP address.
  6. Click Find Sessions.
